Things to Remember When Having an Unplanned Pregnancy

  • You have adoption choices
  • Confirm with a doctor that you are pregnant
  • High emotions such as shock, depression, and anger are normal
  • Decide to share the news with family or a close relative/friend, someone you trust

What are My Options for an Unplanned Pregnancy

All three options to decide about an unplanned pregnancy are valid but not limited to:

  • Parent your child
  • Terminating your pregnancy
  • Adoption

Why Should I Choose Adoption?

There is no right or wrong way to place your child up for adoption. It is a choice you made out of love for your child. Your unique reasons to put your child up for adoption through Adoption Choices of Arizona come from a good place. Many reasons for choosing adoption can be that you are not ready to become a parent, you do not have family support, your finances may be too low to raise a child, you are too young or too old, or you have severe health issues. Only you can make the choice on adoption; every choice in an adoption option is up to you. You decide on what is best for you through this entire adoption process.

How Do I Put My Baby Up for Adoption In Arizona?

Step 1. Contact Adoption Choices of Arizona

Go to Adoption Choices of Arizona and schedule an appointment and ask questions that you need to be clarified. You will be contacted by a professional adoption specialist. You can also call our toll-free number, 888-422-9912. We are a licensed adoption agency across all of Arizona and we look forward to answering your questions and helping you plan out your adoption in Arizona

Step 2. Schedule an Initial Meeting for Pregnant Adoption Help

The adoption specialist can contact you and make a meeting via call, text, or video chat. Whatever makes you most comfortable, so that you can ask the questions you need and find out more about the adoption process. This initial meeting is one-on-one. The topics that will be discussed in this meeting are who we are and what we provide: financial aid, legal and medical assistance, and free counseling before and after the adoption process.

Step 3. Go Through the Adoption Paperwork

Once this is complete you will schedule another meeting where you go over the adoption plan paperwork. Your adoption specialist will walk you through the entire form and go over every step you need help filling out.

Step 4. Figure Out Your Financial Situation for Your Unplanned Pregnancy

Based on your living situation, we can provide housing, transportation, and financial help with expenses. Some of these expenses include food, maternal clothes, medical expenses, and money for transportation. If you are in a homeless situation, housing will be provided. If you are having trouble finding a doctor, we will recommend a list for you to choose from and who will help you during your entire pregnancy. We want you to feel safe and protected during this time and after. We make sure that we listen to your needs, and that includes which doctor you want and housing arrangements at our disposal.

Step 5. Choosing the Type of Adoption Plan

There are three kinds of adoption options that you can choose from:

Open Adoption- Where you can find out personal information about the adoptive family you choose. You will also receive, pictures, letters, emails, and other updates through our adoption agency about your child’s progress and upbringing.

Closed Adoption- When the adoptive family and you as the birth mother don’t share any personal information about each other.

Semi-Open Adoption- You and the adoptive family share certain personal things such as medical information. You will receive letters, pictures, and other updates through Adoption Choices of Arizona about your child’s upbringing.

You can choose from these to help you get started. Whichever is more comfortable for you and helps you transition after the pregnancy, we will work with you to choose adoptive families that fit your criteria.

Step 6. Review Adoptive Families

You are in charge of choosing the adoptive family. The adoption specialist gives you screened profiles of the waiting adoptive families and basic information. This can all depend on the adoption type you choose. If you chose a closed adoption you will know what your adoptive family looks like. You will not know anything personal such as their medical information, their address, or name. The adoptive family will know nothing about you.  If this is open adoption, all information can be shared if both sides consent. This can include medical information, where they live, what they look like, their jobs, or if they have more children, etc. If it’s semi-open then medical information can be shared upon request for birth mothers or adoptive parents.

Step 7. Create a Birth Plan for Your Due Date

You will be creating your birth plan before the baby is even born. You are in charge of the birth plan. Once you bring your child into the world, you will have decided what happens next. If you wanted to hold your baby or name your baby, it’s all up to you. You decided who is in the delivery room. An adoption specialist will advocate for you in the hospital.

Step 8. Parental Rights for Child Adoption

Once the baby is born, you can schedule when you will relinquish your parental rights. Once this day and time are scheduled then (depending on which type of adoption plan you decided on) you can meet with the adoptive parents with your adoption specialist and sign the papers that give the adoptive parents parental rights over your child.

Step 9. Post-Placement Services

Birth mother support and free professional counseling are provided. Updates on your child’s upbringing (if you chose semi-open or open adoption) are through the web-based program called ChildConnect. Expenses will be paid six weeks after delivery and you can continue counseling.
