Navigating Pregnancy during a Pandemic

So, you have discovered you are pregnant. Now what? An unplanned pregnancy alone can be daunting, but add a global pandemic to the mix, and your situation becomes even more intimidating. You are not only growing a human, but now also have to take extra stressful precautions in order to keep you and your baby safe. Additionally, you may feel even more segregated from your support system during this pregnancy due to social distancing measures. As a result, it may feel like you are stuck or out of options for your child’s future.

We here at Adoption Choices of Arizona understand these fears that accompany a pregnancy during a pandemic. Please know that we are here to assure and support you every step of the way. You are not alone, and you have options. Here are some tips and advice to consider during your pregnancy.

Utilize Technology

While we are living in a global pandemic, we are also living during the age of technology. Many doctors’ offices have adapted to social distancing guidelines and are now providing virtual health visits. These visits can ensure that you are getting proper healthcare between mandatory in-person appointments, all the while minimizing your risk of exposure to COVID-19. Furthermore, because of technologies like ZOOM, FaceTime or Houseparty, you are still able to maintain relations within your social circle and stay connected during the duration of your pregnancy. Additionally, many mental health therapists offer virtual appointments to help support your mental health during this time. Adoption Choices of Arizona also has virtual services to support birth mothers considering adoption, including those facing unplanned pregnancy during a pandemic.

Practice Self-Care

Stress and sadness are two very normal emotions during this pandemic. Add pregnancy hormones to the mix and things can become overwhelming, When that happens, remember to breathe. Give yourself some grace. Take some time out of your day to journal, do a face mask, bake a treat or take a bubble bath – do something to look after your mental health. These activities can not only ease the aches and pains of your pregnancy, but they also decrease high-stress levels, which can cause complications during pregnancy. While this pregnancy is unplanned that does not mean that you should not take care of yourself.

Adoption and Unplanned Pregnancy During a Pandemic

While you may feel lost or out of options given the world’s current situation that is not the case. Adoption is still an option. Despite what feels like an uncertain future, we here at Adoption Choices of Arizona are certain that there is someone out there ready to adopt and to love on your child during this time. We are prepared to work with you both remotely and/or in-person to ensure that that will happen. You are not out of options and you are not alone! Adoption is always an option.
