Adoption Support Through the Holidays

By Megan Kostraba

The holidays are a time of joy and celebration, but they can also be a time of stress and anxiety. Especially for those who are currently expecting or for those who are considering placing their baby for adoption. As a private adoption agency, we understand that your worries and concerns don’t just shut off for the holiday season. You might be feeling an incredible amount of stress on your shoulders. Adoption Choices of Arizona can be there for you during these busy and joyous times!

Adoption Choices of Arizona is a non-profit organization that provides several services to support birth parents and families during the holidays. We can supply counseling, support groups, and even holiday events for those struggling during the season.

We understand that the season of giving can be challenging for birth parents. Sometimes, the holidays might not even seem like a joyous time but rather just be stressful. We want our birth parents to be able to enjoy the winter season fully! There is nothing wrong with reaching out for help.

Life doesn’t stop when choosing adoption, but your adoption plan can be carried out while still enjoying the season. The adoption process is one that can be flexible, and we can help ensure that your holiday season isn’t lost in the process. Let’s discuss handling the adoption process during the holidays and what you might be feeling in the upcoming weeks.

Facing the Adoption Process During the Holidays

The weeks between November and December can really fly by, and the upcoming holidays can be stressful for any parent! Having to go through an unplanned pregnancy during this time can only add to a birth parent’s stress and might even put the upcoming holiday season in a negative light.

At Adoption Choices of Arizona, we want our birth parents to be aware of the services we can help provide. Every birth parent is eligible for these services and can discuss their options further with an adoption specialist. Some of these services include:

  • Financial assistance
  • Medical care
  • Housing and Transportation
  • Maternity Clothing
  • Counseling
  • Support Groups

At the start of the holiday season, many parents might worry about their financial state. As an agency that has worked with women who come from all walks of life, we understand that everyone faces different struggles, some of them being financially related. As with any of these services, you can talk your options out with an adoption specialist.

We will also provide pregnancy help and offer these services at the beginning of the holiday season as part of our holiday support program. During this time, we can provide additional support to help families cope with the stress of the holiday season. Our program is available to all families who are affected by adoption! Not only can we offer all of the services above, but the holiday program also includes some holiday events our families can participate in.

Why Should I Reach Out for Adoption Support During the Holidays?

Adoption can be a very challenging process. It might frustrate, intimidate, and confuse birth parents. It can also become very hard to express emotions during the adoption process. Birth parents will often have feelings of grief, loss, regret, relief, and guilt throughout their adoption. These emotions can be difficult to express, especially if they become muddled. Some birth parents aren’t even sure why they are feeling what they’re feeling, which is why counseling can be helpful!

Support counseling can help birth parents and those affected by adoption understand and express their feelings. We can do this with an adoption counselor or by helping introduce the individual to a support group! A support group is a great option for those who prefer a group setting. In a support group, you can communicate and share your experience with others who have felt all the same things you have. Whether you reach out for support within an adoption agency in Arizona, with a support group, or with a professional, reaching out and accepting help is the first step.
