Many of us have seen, in the news, desperate women who leave their newborn babies in airport bathrooms, alleyways, and other inappropriate locations. Unfortunately, these places are not registered as Safe Haven, are dangerous for the baby, and the woman may face legal charges.
Passed in 2001, Arizona’s Safe Baby Haven Law states that a person will not face criminal charges for physically handing over an unharmed newborn baby within the first 72 hours after birth with a Safe Haven provider. Providers include fire stations, EMTs, hospitals, private child welfare agencies (when Safe Haven signs are posted), church (when Safe Haven signs are posted), and adoption agencies in Arizona to include Adoption Choices of Arizona.
Requiring unplanned pregnancy help can be a difficult, confusing time. If you feel unprepared to mother your child, there are options! Adoption is a loving wonderful experience and your child will be placed with a loving family that is prepared to provide a safe, stable environment to raise a family. If you are scared, confused, and don’t know where to turn, PLEASE contact us at Adoption Choices of Arizona or leave your newborn at a Safe Baby Haven.
You will:
- Remain anonymous
- Not be held criminally liable for abandonment
- Not have to answer any questions by safe haven providers
- Offer your child an opportunity for a life and provide a family with a dream come true
Don’t leave your child to fall into the system, don’t risk trouble for yourself to face criminal charges; contact a counselor and let’s discuss an adoption plan or take your child to a Safe Baby Haven.
