Support Provided by Adoption Agencies

Making the decision to place your baby for adoption can be scary and daunting, but we are here to ease your worries and make the adoption process as smooth as possible for you. You already took the first step: choosing adoption. The next step is to contact Adoption Choices of Arizona. We’ll arrange a meeting with you and introduce you to your adoption counselor. Your adoption counselor’s responsibility is to ensure that all of your needs are met and to answer any questions you may have during this process.

Your adoption counselor’s first job will be to help you develop your adoption plan and arrange prenatal medical care. Your specific Arizona adoption plan will consist of information like who will be in the room during your labor, you decide on a family to adopt your baby, and the type of adoption you want. The most common types of adoption are open, semi-open, or closed. Open adoption and semi-open adoptions allow you to choose your baby’s adoptive family. Open adoptions involve direct contact between you and the adoptive family. You can decide whether you want to receive photos, letters, or phone calls regarding the growth and development of your baby. This type of adoption can also include periodic visits throughout the child’s life. The biggest difference between open and semi-open adoptions is the contact between both parties is limited. In a semi-open adoption, all contact between you and the adoptive parents is mediated via an adoption counselor. There is no contact between the birth mother and the adoptive family in a closed adoption; the only information your child’s adoptive family will receive about you is your medical history. This is also where we will determine what kind of financial and emotional support you may need.

Our goal is to minimize the stress of your pregnancy and the Arizona adoption process, so we assist you in receiving financial support. This financial support can include but is not limited to rent, transportation, food, and utilities. Pregnancy can be a financial burden; we seek to alleviate some of that burden through our adoption agencies Phoenix, Tucson, and Flagstaff.

Types of Counseling Available to You During Your Adoption in Arizona

You may be wondering about the types of counseling we can provide to you. Our counseling services vary based on your needs and want. In addition, we offer one-on-one support groups and birth mother retreat counseling.

Our one-on-one counseling is personalized, especially for you. You may have specific questions about adoption, or you just want someone to vent to. Our adoption counselors are here to answer your questions and lessen any stress you may feel around your pregnancy and impending adoption. These sessions are confidential and tailored to you.

How Birth Mother Support Groups Can Help You Throughout Your Adoption

Support groups provide a great opportunity for you to be around women who share your experiences. In this group setting, you’ll be able to meet women who have either gone through the adoption process or who are currently going through the adoption process. This type of counseling fosters a sense of community, belonging, and comfort. Support groups can help reduce some of the guilt you may be feeling surrounding adoption.

We also offer birth mother retreats. Much like a support group, birth mother retreats allow you to connect with other birth mothers during your adoption journey. Birth mother retreats can cultivate a deeper type of bonding than support groups or one-on-one counseling. Retreats allow you to get away from your day-to-day life and really focus on what you’re experiencing at the present moment. Birth mother retreats create lifelong friendships and connections with your fellow birth mothers. We add to or establish the support system you need during this time in your life.

We have an abundance of resources available to you during your adoption journey. All you have to do is pick up the phone. Our adoption counselors are available to assist you 24/7. You took the first step. Let’s finish this journey together!
