How to Place Your Baby for Adoption at our Adoption Agency
Step One: Contact our Adoption Agency
Even though this may seem like an obvious step, it’s still an important one to mention, as it is what sets your adoption journey in motion. If you have decided to place your baby for adoption and want to know more about our adoption process, staff or our adoption agency in general, don’t hesitate to give us a call or fill out our contact form on our website. We will be more than happy to answer any and all questions you have, address your concerns and give you as much information as you need.
If, at the end of the call, you choose to move forward with our adoption agency, you will be assigned to an adoption caseworker. From that moment on, your adoption caseworker will be your biggest resource and advocate, and be there to support you every step of the way in your adoption journey. They will help you navigate all of the big decisions and guide you to the best options for you and your baby.
Step Two: Schedule a Meeting with an Adoption Caseworker or Counselor
Your adoption caseworker will reach out to you to schedule an initial meeting. This is important, as it allows you time to get to know them and build a relationship. You can also ask any additional questions you have.
If you are still coming to terms with your unplanned pregnancy and needing emotional support, Adoption Choices of Arizona has counseling services available for you. An adoption counselor, also known as a Birth Parent Counselor, will guide you through your thoughts and help you process in a safe, nonjudgmental and confidential space. You may experience a wide range of emotions — and that’s natural! We want you to know that we are here to support you in any way we can. That both you and your child will be well taken care of.
Step Three: Fill out an Application and Other Paperwork
After you’ve spoken to one of our adoption professionals and decided that you’d like to work with our adoption agency, you will be directed to fill out an application. This can either be done online or in our office. Be sure to include a proof of pregnancy in your application, or to bring a copy with you if you submit it in our office.
Your assigned adoption caseworker will also provide you with all the other necessary paperwork we need to help your baby find a loving and caring adoptive family. He or she may ask you about any medical or financial needs you have as well. Depending on your circumstances, you may qualify for our financial assistance program, which includes coverage for court-approved living expenses and medical care.
Step Four: Create Your Adoption Plan
Now you are ready to officially begin your adoption journey as a birth mother! Once you’ve had your initial meeting, your adoption caseworker will help you navigate one of the most involved steps in the adoption process — creating your adoption plan! This will include what you’re looking for, how much involvement you want to have in your child’s life and the kind of adoptive family you have in mind. It can also have details about your hospital experience, such as birth and delivery plans.
As a birth mother, you are in complete control over your adoption journey. You get to choose your child’s adoptive parents and outline what type of adoption you want. What’s more, you will never be alone. Your adoption caseworker will be there for assistance should you need it, and a Birth Parent Counselor will always be available should you require additional support.
