Welcome to a continuing Adoption Choices of Arizona series called, “One Minute With…” With this one minute, we hope to offer you a short, personal understanding of our agency, the people we work with and for, and our mission.
To start off our series, we spent One Minute With the agency Executive Director, Anita Patten!
3 Words to Describe Your Job:
Every. Day. Different.
How did you get into adoption? Was there a defining point in your career?
I accidently fell into the foster care and adoption world as my first social worker job right out of college. I haven’t left. Highlights? Developing programs 30+ years ago that are still in existence today, successful and making a difference in the lives of those we serve.
A few sentences about your most memorable BM:
I have a standing sushi date with her a couple times a year. We’ve done 2 adoptions together. Both were crazy births, lots of laughter and tears. I dog sat her emotional support dog that was there for the birth, but I got to take her home for her hospital stay. She’s an amazing artist!
One thing you want your clients to know about Adoption Choices:
We care. For real.
Anita has over 30 years of experience in foster care, adoption, reunification services, and independent living. After retiring as Co-founder and Director of CHOICES, Inc., a foster care and independent living agency in Dayton, Ohio, Anita spent several years traveling. Settling in Arizona, she left retirement and became the Executive Director for Adoption Choices of Arizona. “Working in the field of Adoption is an amazing experience. I’ve experienced the successes and the failures alongside the mothers, joining them in a journey that no one can truly understand until it happens. My goal is to facilitate a positive experience, assist with the decision making, soothe the anxieties and celebrate the miracle of birth and Adoption.” Anita is an avid bicyclist, triathlete, backpacker, and world traveler.
Thank you Anita!
